The Role
We are seeking a Software Developer to join the Tech Group of the Precision Medicine unit. You will help to build an innovative, highly usable and robust research platform. The platform is powered by our pharmacoscopy image analysis pipeline which allows us to practise precision medicine and find the right drug for the right patient. You will help to build complex apps and user interfaces on top of tens of millions of high-resolution images and cutting edge machine learning models to empower researchers and ultimately contribute to the discovery of new drugs.
You will support innovation to keep the application on the cutting edge of technology, and we're seeking someone who is passionate about breaking new ground.
Please note, this is a hybrid role so regular travel is required to our Vienna office (approximately 3-4 days per week in Floridsdorf 1210), with flexibility to work from home the remaining time. We are a flexible working organisation and we are willing to discuss other arrangements that would provide similar contact time with the team (eg. being office-based one week and then working from home the following week).
You will have the opportunity to:

Develop cutting edge, cloud native tools which will be used by a variety of customers including internal and external researchers.

Essential:
BSc in Computer Science or related field and/or 3+ years of experience professional software development experience in agile environments.
Working knowledge of building and designing robust cloud applications with Python 3.9+.
Experience with the following technologies: Python web frameworks (FastAPI/Django), relational databases (eg. PostgreSQL, MySQL).
Experience playing an active role in a diverse, cross-functional agile development team.
Highly motivated attitude, with an ownership mindset and enthusiastic approach to innovating and creative problem solving.
Fluency in English (written and verbal). English is our working language, so please submit your CV in English.
Desirable:
Experience in front end development (eg. React, Node, HTML5, CSS).
Understanding of basic cloud based services (eg. EC2, S3, RDS, LoadBalancing, Networking and the GCP equivalents).
Basic knowledge of high coding standards (e.g. TestDrivenDevelopment, Experience with Design Patterns, CleanCode).
Basic knowledge of distributed computing, microservices and Python’s data science stack (e.g. numpy, pandas, scipy…).
Some working experience with stakeholders.

A highly competitive compensation package in accordance with the Austrian collective bargaining agreement, starting from 44,000-€ gross per year. We will agree an attractive package and overpayment based on your background and previous work experience.
