Purpose

As a part of a communicative and collaborative squad of Library IT Software Developers, this position provides essential IT development and operations support for the University of Texas Libraries (UTL) and works on projects that support the Libraries digital collections.

We are seeking a Senior Level Developer to help mentor and lead a squad on a variety of challenging and rewarding tasks. While coding experience is presumed, an ideal candidate will best provide technology-based decisions and oversight to a group of others. This includes proper decision making on creation and maintenance of digital repositories for UT Libraries media, upgrading systems to modern standards, and solving access issues.

We implement many modern tools and concepts of dev-ops and other technologies. Our infrastructure is varied and flexible; a modern sampling includes drupal, ruby, python, and more. This position is an opportunity to work on projects that benefit the global academic community, helping to implement numerous research tools.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct systems analysis and programming for UTL systems.

  • Provide operational and customer support for UTL services, including systems monitoring, customer service, issue investigation, and documentation.

  • Participate as an active member of one or more project teams. Tasks may include planning and monitoring of project tasks, communicating project status to stakeholders, and ensuring timely completion of milestones.

  • Contribute to application quality; oversee and lead validation, testing, and documentation of product releases.

  • Lead the development of team software development standards, process improvements, and technical documentation.

  • Mentor and coach software developers

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated production experience in systems design, analysis, and programming.

  • Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of software development principles.

  • Experience with RDBMS/SQL. Experience with RESTful API services.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, test, and debug complex code.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, in a team-oriented environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple activities and projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to communicate technical matters to users with varying experience levels.

  • Strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity in Drupal and/or Islandora, or a proven capacity to learn CMS systems

  • Skill in Object Oriented Programming and design patterns.

  • Experience with any of the following: Python, PHP, and/or Ruby; automated testing tools, such as Junit or Selenium; software build and integration tools such as Drone and Helm; version control software, such as Git; Unix or Linux command line utilities and shell scripting; Django and/or responsive website development. 

  • Experience performing security testing.

  • Experience participating as a member of an Agile Scrum squad.

  • Experience with implementing/integrating vendor software packages into a production environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing technology.

Salary Range

$77,000+ depending on qualifications

Work Shift

  • Monday – Friday, between the hours of 7am and 6pm as coordinated with supervisor. Flexible work arrangements available.
