Senior Python Developer

We are looking to hire a Senior Python Developer to accelerate development of GenomSys innovative genomic products. The candidate can choose whether to work out of our Lausanne/Morges (VD) office or our Lugano (TI) office, flexible working arrangements are also possible, and will report directly to GenomSys CTO & co-founder. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to shape the future of genomics.

You will be part of an experienced, multicultural, and highly motivated team working on state-of-the-art solutions in genomics, leveraging the innovative genomic data representation standard MPEG-G (ISO/IEC-23092) we contributed to develop.

The ideal candidate shall be able to design, develop and integrate existing and new software components (mainly developed in Python) together with the existing team, and managing a cloud application (currently running on AWS) focused on supporting the exchange of genomic data between servers and clients, and on processing the same genomic data.

Your primary focus will be the design and development of the logic implementing the interaction between the front-end and the back-end, ensuring high performance and responsiveness in processing requests from the front-end. Our software platform runs on Amazon AWS, therefore at least 2 years of professional experience in this domain is a must. Experience with Django would be a huge asset. A particular focus on security will require at least basic knowledge of strong authentication, content protection through cryptography and digital signature, RBAC, and secure channel establishment (SSL, SSH tunnels, VPN).

The company has a dual-office model, with offices in Ticino and Vaud and specialized software development teams in both locations with which you'll continuously interact.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop the back‑end of production‑grade web applications

  • Maintain and extend existing applications implemented mainly in Django/Python

  • Collaborate with front-end developers to integrate graphical user interfaces with cloud processing

  • Support QA team with testing and troubleshooting

  • Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies

  • Expert in Python, with knowledge of Django Web Framework

  • Familiarity with RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs and their implementation

  • 2 years of professional experience in development and integration of AWS applications

  • Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases

  • In-depth understanding of the entire web development process (design, development and deployment)

  • Proficient understanding of Git.

  • Enthusiastic, curious, rigorous and talented at problem solving

  • Good team player with startup, can-do, mindset

  • Fluency in English (spoken and written)

  • Swiss/EU citizenship or valid Swiss work permit a must

Desirable Skills And Experience

  • Knowledge of GraphQL, Graphene, Graphene-Django, Apollo and Apollo Federation

  • Understanding of accessibility and security compliance

  • Experience with cyber security and quality management system certifications

  • Fluency in Italian, French, German or Spanish
