Senior Full Stack Developer (Python, Vue.js & GCP)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Full Stack Developer (Python, Vue.js & GCP) based in Canada.

As a Senior Full Stack Developer, you will play a key role in modernizing legacy systems and building secure, scalable, cloud-native digital services. Over a 12-month engagement, you will contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from designing responsive user interfaces and robust backend services to implementing APIs and cloud infrastructure. You will work with modern technologies, including Python, Flask, Vue.js, TypeScript, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), within a collaborative Agile environment. Partnering with developers, architects, product managers, and UX/UI specialists, you will help deliver reliable, high-quality solutions that meet complex business needs. You will also contribute to technical design decisions, automated testing, and continuous delivery practices. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced developer who enjoys solving challenging engineering problems, sharing technical knowledge, and making a meaningful impact on large-scale digital transformation initiatives.

Accountabilities:

  • Full-stack application development: Design, develop, test, and maintain modern web applications using Python, Flask, Vue.js, Nuxt, JavaScript, and TypeScript, ensuring maintainability, performance, and scalability.

  • Front-end engineering: Build responsive, accessible, and user-friendly interfaces using HTML5, CSS/SCSS, and modern front-end development practices, leveraging Vue 2, Vue 3, Pinia, and Nuxt 3 where appropriate.

  • Backend and API development: Develop and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs using Python 3.13, Flask, SQLAlchemy, and Alembic, applying API-first principles and JSON Schema to support reliable integrations.

  • Database design and optimization: Design and maintain PostgreSQL databases hosted on Google Cloud SQL, including data modelling, schema migrations, query optimization, and performance improvements.

  • Cloud-native architecture: Build, containerize, deploy, and maintain microservices using Docker and Google Cloud Platform, including services such as Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Build.

  • Event-driven integrations: Implement asynchronous messaging and event-driven communication using Google Cloud Pub/Sub and CloudEvents to enable reliable interactions between distributed services.

  • Security and access management: Implement authentication and authorization mechanisms using Keycloak and JSON Web Tokens (JWT), following secure development practices.

  • CI/CD and automated testing: Develop and maintain automated delivery pipelines using GitHub Actions and Google Cloud Build, alongside unit and integration tests using pytest and Vitest.

  • Feature management: Implement and maintain feature flags using LaunchDarkly to support controlled releases, experimentation, and safer deployment practices.

  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with product managers, solution architects, UX/UI designers, business analysts, and other developers to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.

  • Agile delivery and technical planning: Participate in Agile ceremonies, architecture discussions, code reviews, technical design sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Technical leadership and documentation: Provide guidance and mentorship to internal development teams, facilitate knowledge transfer, and maintain clear technical documentation covering APIs, deployment processes, and development standards.

  • Legacy modernization: Contribute to the transformation of legacy registry systems into secure, scalable, cloud-native digital services, with a focus on long-term maintainability and operational reliability.

Requirements:

  • Professional experience: At least five years of professional software development experience, including substantial hands-on full-stack development.

  • Backend development: Strong practical expertise in Python and Flask, with experience building and maintaining production-grade backend applications and services.

  • Database technologies: Hands-on experience with SQLAlchemy and Alembic for database access, schema management, and migrations, as well as PostgreSQL data modelling, query optimization, and performance tuning.

  • Front-end development: Strong proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML5, and modern CSS/SCSS, with practical experience developing responsive and accessible web interfaces.

  • Vue.js ecosystem: Experience with Vue 2 and Vue 3, including class components, Pinia, and Nuxt 3.

  • API design and integration: Demonstrated experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs, working with JSON Schema, and applying sound API design principles.

  • Google Cloud Platform: Practical experience with GCP services, particularly Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Build.

  • Cloud-native development: Experience building and deploying Docker-based containerized applications and microservices, with an understanding of distributed systems and cloud-native architecture.

  • DevOps and automation: Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Google Cloud Build, supported by automated testing practices.

  • Event-driven architecture: Familiarity with asynchronous messaging, event-driven integrations, Google Cloud Pub/Sub, and CloudEvents.

  • Security implementation: Experience implementing authentication and authorization solutions such as Keycloak and JWT.

  • Quality assurance: Practical experience writing and maintaining automated unit and integration tests using pytest and Vitest.

  • Collaboration and communication: Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders in cross-functional teams.

  • Agile methodology: Experience working in Agile development environments, participating in iterative delivery, technical discussions, and collaborative code reviews.

  • Technical documentation and mentorship: Ability to document technical solutions clearly, share knowledge, and support the development of other engineers.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with LaunchDarkly or other feature flag management platforms.

  • Previous involvement in legacy application modernization or migration to cloud-native architectures.

  • Experience contributing to large-scale government or public-sector digital transformation projects.

  • Familiarity with OpenAPI specifications and API-first development approaches.

  • Experience providing technical mentorship and knowledge transfer to client-side development teams.

Benefits:

  • Competitive hourly compensation: CAD $52โ€“55 per hour.

  • 12-month contract: A defined engagement offering the opportunity to contribute to a substantial digital modernization initiative.

  • Remote work: Work remotely from Canada, with the flexibility and convenience of a distributed working arrangement.

  • Modern technology stack: Gain hands-on experience with Python, Flask, Vue.js, TypeScript, Docker, and Google Cloud Platform.

  • Meaningful project impact: Help replace legacy registry systems with secure, scalable, and modern digital services.

  • Collaborative Agile environment: Work alongside multidisciplinary teams of developers, architects, product managers, UX/UI designers, and business analysts.

  • Technical growth: Deepen your expertise in cloud-native architecture, microservices, event-driven integrations, automated testing, and continuous delivery.

  • Technical leadership opportunities: Contribute to architectural decisions, mentor other developers, and share expertise through documentation and knowledge transfer.

  • End-to-end engineering experience: Work across front-end development, backend services, API integrations, databases, cloud infrastructure, and deployment automation.
