The Senior Automation Operations Engineer role is an exciting opportunity to work with like-minded, brilliant people, and get involved in the technology revolution happening now, in Space. You will play a key role in the Service Monitoring and Incident management team, providing support functions to Subject Matter Experts to take the most relevant and effective action.
The scope covers from the detection and identification of significant events, alerting and communication of the event, determination of probable root cause through analysis and tools, the identification and execution of remedial actions to ensure services remain in their optimal state, through to reporting on the effectiveness of the solutions to drive further improvements.
The role will include using and developing analytical tools and methods to support the identification of Continuous Improvement opportunities, defining a solution to the issue and delivering on it, with strong emphasis on the implementation of automated solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Be the subject matter expert for automation, setting the vision for automation and analytic capability
Work with subject matter experts to identify existing automation across Network Operations, and suggest best practices to align efforts and orchestrate automation initiatives, building a wider understanding of available and potential data sources, and opportunities to utilise them.
Automate. Design and deliver robust scalable monitoring solutions that detect issues before services are impacted and efficiently remediate them with minimal disruption
Work closely with Continuous Improvement team to support performance analysis, creating tools to enable teams, departments and individuals to measure, track and report their KPIs/OKRs. Provide automation solutions to enable evermore improvements in performance.
Proactively contribute to continuous improvement by adopting a proactive mind-set, presenting ideas to management, and championing continuous improvement at team level. Create efficient operational and technical processes/procedures, reclaiming time from waste.
Provide support through coaching and training to other engineers and teams
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Very strong Linux and networking knowledge, with working experience implementing automation in virtualised environments.
Very strong experience working with working with Relational Databases and Query language
Demonstrable experience in object oriented languages such as Python, Ruby, R or Javascript, utilising available libraries to analyse and visualise large datasets to gain insights.
A keen interest in applying data analysis techniques and intelligent automation, with a strong curiosity in machine learning.
Structured and analytical approach to problem solving, with an ability to break down complex tasks and explain in non-technical terms.
Good interpersonal skills aligned with Inmarsat values, with the ability to work both in a large virtual team and as an individual.
Knowledge of Inmarsat Products and Services.
Desirable knowledge and Skills:
Experience in scripting Bash or Powershell.
Experience in visualistion products or libraries, such as Tableau, Power BI, Matplotlib, ggplot, Seaborn
Experience working with Cloud patforms (GCP, AWS, Azure etc.)
Experience working and building APIs using Web Frameworks e.g. Flask or FastAPI.
Experience of monitoring platforms such Nagios, Icinga2 or Dataminer.
Experience in optimising monitoring and Event Management in an operational environment, using statistical analysis, anomaly detection, and correlation techniques.
Knowledge of ITSM or CRM tools such as ServiceNow, Remedy, Microsoft Dynamics, Salesforce
Appreciation of best practices and methodologies, such as ITIL and Lean Six sigma
Experience of Telecommunications networks (Satellite, mobile or fixed)
Aviation, maritime, enterprise or space industry experience is a plus
