Position Overview
Autodesk Construction Solutions is looking for a Principal Backend Engineer to help us build the future faster. Our users are building some of the most amazing construction projects in the world, and our platform is their central information point.
The Forms product is a fundamental pillar in the success of our broader Autodesk Construction Cloud offering. Forms provide a simple, streamlined experience that allow our customers to collect and manage any data on the construction job site especially as it relates to quality, safety, and progress workflows. As part of our Field Forms group, your team's products will be used by tens of thousands of Project Managers, Foremen, Superintendents, and Engineers on construction sites across the world. We deliver solutions that are best in class for field adoption and are beloved by our end users for ease of use, intuitive designs, and flexibility for their workflows and needs
Responsibilities
Building, shipping, and maintaining features on our products in a cloud environment (AWS)
Apply deep technical expertise to resolve challenging programming and design problems
Contribute to the design and architecture to enable secure, scalable and maintainable software
Understanding product and business requirements as a foundation for making technical decisions
Maintaining a high standard of code quality by promoting team best practices around testing, code reviews, and design patterns
Drive and participate in code and document reviews, mentoring team in best practices
Translating complex design and product requirements into discrete engineering tasks with level of effort estimates with the teammates
Communicating status updates, identifying potential blockers, and resolving the root cause of slowdowns with rest of the team
Participate in the on-call rotation to support the systems in the production environment
Collaborate with peer organizations, DevOps, Support organizations on technical issues and provide guidance
Minimum Qualifications
7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years of backend development experience
Strong understanding of non-trivial backend systems / micro-services
Experience in writing production level code with contribute to the design and architecture to enable secure, scalable and maintainable software
Expertise in our backend stack (Python + Flask + Postgres)
Ability to define and interact with RESTful APIs
Experience with React and modern Javascript (ES6+)
Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially around technical concepts
Preferred Qualifications
Leadership experience as a Team Lead, Tech Lead, or Architect in previous roles with a strong sense of ownership
Experience mentoring and providing technical leadership
Product engineering mindset / customer empathy to provide the right technical solution to real users’ problems with right tradeoffs
Experience working on teams developing modern cloud-based services, in a fast-paced, agile environment
Experience with Typescript and comfortable with writing and optimizing SQL queries
Strong experience with Amazon Web ServicesÂ

Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $131,200 and $212,300. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
