Role and Responsibilities

This research engineer position is for the AI research team at Hewlett Packard Labs, the core research organization in HPE. This team has done impactful work on reinforcement learning for complex systems, trustworthy AI, NLP, optimizations, and digital twins, with a track record of publications in top machine learning conferences with award-winning paper.

The responsibilities will include research, solutions, and IP development on emerging areas of Artificial Intelligence like Reinforcement Learning, Digital Twins, clean energy, data center optimizations, and sustainability. This will include technologies and tools for analysis, synthesis, and measurement for emerging areas of machine learning and will include advanced time series analysis, uncertainty quantification, optimization, and control. This involves innovation, design, development, implementation, evaluation, and technology transfer. It will be required to provide thought leadership and technical influence internally and externally to HPE and collaboration across organizations and with external partners. The role also involves contributing to the corporate strategy with an eye on emerging technologies. The candidate is expected to contribute to scientific literature and conferences and participate in developing patent applications.

This is a hands-on role, and the work will involve extensive software development, hardware optimizations, data pipelining, and innovations to implement robust AI solutions for real-world use cases. It will include working with systems programming, deep learning frameworks and models, GPU acceleration, model optimization, real-time streaming data, distributed computing, and scaling for multiple server nodes. The work will lead to the creation of digital twins for multiple domains.

Required Skills and experience

  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields with a focus on Machine Learning for the dissertation.

  • Experience in deep learning research required, preferably with Reinforcement Learning and/or Digital Twin exposure.

  • Experience in research and development in Reinforcement Learning and/or Digital Twins.

  • Experience and deep knowledge with different deep learning model architectures for time series, uncertainty quantification, optimization, control, etc.

  • Experience in developing deep learning software with frameworks like PyTorch and/or Tensorflow required.

  • Strong programming skills and experience with Python required.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience in Python Web Frameworks – Django, Flask - a plus.

  • Exposure to heterogeneous computation infrastructure optimization a plus.

  • Experience with ML model optimization, GPU acceleration, system software, and performance optimization desired.

  • Strong background in data structures, algorithms, and computer science fundamentals desired.

  • Experience with multi-threaded programming, parallel processing, OOD, OOP and distributed programming desired.
