Job Description

Verisk is looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious GIS Engineer to develop and support a new geospatial product which is an inventory of all commercial and residential structures in the US. The day to day responsibilities of this role are: 

• Develop and validate Python and SQL code used to integrate geospatial data into relational database

• Run test and client data sets

• Perform statistical analysis of data and results

• Use visualization tools such as maps and charts to validate results

• Write technical documentation for internal use and distribution to clients

• Create and deliver presentations of analysis methods and results to coworkers

• Identify areas for improvement and develop practical implementations of improvements

• Work as member of multi-faceted development team

Qualifications

Experience, Knowledge and Abilities:

• Ability to gather, understand, and critically analyze spatial and tabular data

• Demonstrated ability to learn new concepts and skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Experience with SQL

• Programming experience in a high-level language such as Python, C#, Javascript, or C++

• Basic understanding of machine learning tools and applications

Desired Experience:

• Familiarity with handling raw data and manipulating large data sets

• Experience in GIS, Spatial SQL

• Experience with machine learning

• Insurance industry knowledge

Qualifications:

• BS with 3-5 years of experience in a quantitative field such as computer science, mathematics, economics, demographic or statistics

• MS Degree preferred
