Verisk is looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious GIS Engineer to develop and support a new geospatial product which is an inventory of all commercial and residential structures in the US. The day to day responsibilities of this role are:Â
Develop and validate Python and SQL code used to integrate geospatial data into relational database
Run test and client data sets
Perform statistical analysis of data and results
Use visualization tools such as maps and charts to validate results
Write technical documentation for internal use and distribution to clients
Create and deliver presentations of analysis methods and results to coworkers
Identify areas for improvement and develop practical implementations of improvements
Work as member of multi-faceted development team
Experience, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to gather, understand, and critically analyze spatial and tabular data
Demonstrated ability to learn new concepts and skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience with SQL
Programming experience in a high-level language such as Python, C#, Javascript, or C++
Basic understanding of machine learning tools and applications
Desired Experience:
Familiarity with handling raw data and manipulating large data sets
Experience in GIS, Spatial SQL
Experience with machine learning
Insurance industry knowledge
Qualifications:
BS with 3-5 years of experience in a quantitative field such as computer science, mathematics, economics, demographic or statistics
MS Degree preferred
