Engineering Manager

About UtilityAPI

UtilityAPI is a mission-driven software company fighting climate change by providing data access for the clean energy transition. Our customers love our reliable service.

We are committed to advancing equity in the clean energy sector, and building a team that looks like America. Our CEO founded the Empowering Diverse Climate Talent (EDICT) program, and our leadership team has more women than men. Our hiring process is designed to value non-traditional work histories and expertise.

We encourage applications from groups and communities that have been traditionally underrepresented and underestimated in the energy and technology sectors. We recognize that those candidates are less likely to apply for jobs when they don’t meet all the requirements. While the data suggests that candidates rarely fulfill 100% of a job description's requirements, we know you have value to offer and we are excited to read your application!

This is a pivotal time of growth for the company and we are hiring with extreme care and in lock step with our business trajectory. As a diverse leadership team that prioritizes and resources equity and inclusion, we work together to be a place where people from all backgrounds and experiences want to work, and equally important - a place where people want to stay.

We have created a culture of open communication and psychological safety, and are committed to maintaining our positive/productive working environment as we grow. Asking questions, engaging in challenging technical discussions, perpetuating feedback loops are all pillars of how our team communicates and the technical leadership team is collectively responsible for protecting this aspect of our culture.

  • Own the professional development process for the team; create stretch opportunities, guide individual contributors along their career paths, and ensure that direct reports receive consistent and supportive performance feedback

  • Partner closely with engineering leadership to effectively hire, onboard, retain, and develop the team

What We’re Looking For:

  • Versatile critical thinking, problem solving, listening skills; demonstrated successful communication experience, both verbal and written across distributed teams

  • 3+ years experience with Python 3 and Django

  • Moderate DevOps experience (setting up automated tests, deploying code to servers, etc.)

  • Experience mentoring junior engineers from onboarding to long term career progression

  • Experience leading a team of engineers as an engineering manager, tech lead, or lead engineer

  • Reside in the United States, be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or have a non-expiring visa that doesn't require sponsorship
