Data Engineer

Planet Farms , founded in 2018 in Milan, is a leading vertical farming company. We are on a mission to transform agriculture with state-of-the-art robotics and automation technology.

The company is in strong development in Italy and abroad and Planet Farmers today work at the production plant and the R&D Center on the outskirts of Milan, as well as offices in Italy (Milan), Portugal (Coimbra), the United Kingdom (London) and the Netherlands (Eindhoven).

We are looking for a Data Engineer to design and develop a new data platform based on data mesh. You will be responsible for building the infrastructure and establishing a data culture in the company. This is a chance to build from the ground up and transform the company. This is an on-site role in Coimbra, Portugual with a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop the internal data platform, leveraging the principles of data mesh to enable autonomous teams to own and operate their data as a product

  • Implement data governance policies and procedures

  • Work with cross-functional teams to define data domains, data products, and data pipelines, to support the needs of the business

  • Cooperate with the Machine Learning team to create new predictive models

Our expectations:

  • Degree in one of the following fields: Engineering/Computer Science/Data Science

  • At least 2 years of experience in data engineering or a related role

  • Fluent knowledge of English

  • Knowledge of Italian is a plus

  • Good familiarity with technologies from our stack: Python, Git, Docker, Flask/FastAPI, Postgres.

  • Knowledge of data infrastructure tools: Clickhouse/Snowflake/BigQuery or other DWH, RabbitMQ/Kafka, Prefect/Airflow, Minio/S3, PostgreSQL, Apache Spark, AWS/GCP/Azure

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Willingness to travel to factories: foreseeable 1 month per year, divided into short assignments
