Flatiron School is seeking a Software Engineering Coach to support students through their educational journey.Â

This role will support our students, acting as a supporting instructor while students are working through the curriculum. SE coaches work in close collaboration with Instructors to determine how to maximize their time and support for students in our program. Coaches may support students through 1:1 check-ins, paired programming, answering questions and providing guidance during activity time, and leveraging other methods of academic support and intervention in conjunction with their team.Â
Responsibilities:
Guide students through labs efficiently, effectively, and with kindness when they’re stuck
Review lines of code and error messages to teach students how to effectively debug
Work hand in hand with instructional team on monitoring student aptitude and progress; collaborate on remediation plans and support plans as necessary
Participate in pilots aimed at bettering our student experience and outcomes
Integrate feedback given by students, colleagues, and managers to continually improve
Support students on end of phase projects and assessments, helping to identify their strengths and weaknesses
Know and demonstrate the best practices around pair programming, pairing 1:1 with students on labs as necessary
Embrace change and thrive in ambiguity by helping students and staff with real time efforts, like debugging a student’s project or assignment, and escalating issues that you need help with in a timely manner.
Create a safe and collaborative environment where students understand that helping their peers betters their own experience.
​​Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree
Strong Knowledge in Web Development in JavaScript, React, Python Flask
Strong Knowledge of Git and GitHub
Strong communication skills, and great judgment about what communications to use in a particular situation or on a particular medium
Service orientation: You’re delighted to help people succeed, whether that’s your colleagues at Flatiron School, or the students you’re helping
The ability to work cross-functionally with a variety of colleagues, from curriculum writers to engineers and designer
Have a passion for teaching and helping others
Thrive in ambiguity, and not shy away from trying new things
