Job Description

QA Engineers are an essential part of Genomics England. They underpin the delivery of reliable, performant, high quality systems that match end-user expectations.

In this role, your professional mission is to make sure scripts don't fail! To achieve this, you will bring together a range of expertise that includes automation, performance and security testing.

The day to day consists of owning testing frameworks, reviewing requirements to create and improve test plans, automating scripts using open source tools, dealing with bugs in the SDLC, and regression testing.

Skills and Experience for Success

To excel in this role, ideally you'll have some experience as a Test Engineer, Automation Test Engineer or QA Engineer in an agile environment (or at least exposure to!). You'll be very knowledgeable in QA methodologies, tools and processes. You'll know how to write clear concise and comprehensive test plans and test cases and have experience with cloud platforms such as Azure/AWS.

It's also important that you have experience of the full testing lifecycle from unit testing to user acceptance testing across a multiple product/service environment and can offer innovation, explore new tools and methodologies and constantly improve.

It is essential that you have a proficient working knowledge of Python and hands on experience using automated testing frameworks such as Selenium.

We've a tight knit team so we'd love it if you have strong communication skills, love team working and are a true problem solver. We love to develop our people formally, as well as informally, so there's lots of opportunity for coaching while in the role, and providing (and receiving!) mentoring.

Key Skills: Python, Automation testing, Selenium Webdriver, BDD, Agile, AWS

As part of our recruitment process, all successful candidates are subject to a Standard Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.  We therefore require applicants to disclose any previous offences at point of application, as some unspent convictions may mean we are unable to proceed with your application due to the nature of our work in healthcare.

Genomics England operates a blended working model as we know our people appreciate the flexibility. We expect most people to come into the office 2 times each month as a minimum. However, this will vary according to role and will be agreed with your team leader. For some people this is 1 day a quarter, for others it is several days a week. There is no expectation that staff will return to the office full time unless they want to. The exception would be some of our roles that would require you to be on site full time e.g., lab teams, reception team.

Our teams and squads have, and will continue to, reflect on what works best for them to work together successfully and have the freedom to design working patterns to suit, beyond the minimum. Our office locations are Canary Wharf, Cambridge and Leeds.
